NDIS Claims for Self or Plan Managed
Yes! The Getabout is the first beach wheelchair in the world designed from the ground up to be available under the NDIS without a specialist signoff allowing fast and easy purchase because it is under $1,500.
You can reclaim the purchase price back if you have the funds available under either assistive technology or even core budget. It can be claimed under a number of NDIS line items, speak to your plan manager to ensure you can purchase one.
How is the Getabout Buggy different from existing options?
Most wheelchairs have been designed to do one thing extremely well. That’s fine if you have tens of thousands of dollars and a spare room to keep them in, but as wheelchair users ourselves, the Tangible team didn’t think this was good enough.
For many people wheelchairs are customized, this may be with something as simple as laterals or suchlike, but these parts are very important for comfortable use, we could be no reason why the same can not be the case in your beach wheelchair.
Is the Getabout only for wheelchair users?
No way! We’ve built these devices to be super fun for anyone. Tangible believes everyone deserves to enjoy the beach, so everyone deserves to have a blast using the Getabout! Many of our users simply have an issue walking on uneven surfaces, the Getabout is designed to halp anyone.
We don’t have the NDIS in our country, can we still purchase the Getabout?
Yes you can. We are working on ensuring the Getabout will be available internationally but feel free to ask us what can be done for you
Where did the Getabout Buggy come from?
The Getabout began its life as a specialist rehabilitation device called TherapyTrike, designed by David Ingerson for his daughter who has a number of medical conditions.
After being selected as an Australian finalist in an international business competition, Pitch at Palace run by Buckingham Palace, the TherapyTrike was about to begin medical trials, but was placed on hold due to Covid-19.
Previously David had been working on a beach wheelchair project, The Getabout Buggy grew from that and has grown from that original idea and the many requests from users that we thought other people would like.
What accessories are available?
We have created a number of options after talking to many people, these include positional aids such as laterals, hip guides, pommel and even a conversion for smaller people. But the second range of accessories are to allow its use in water or off road, all using the same comfortable and supportive positioning system. Have a look at the accessories page and you will probably find what you need.
Is the backrest high enough on the adult to function as a head rest?
Yes, the junior and the adult have an integrated headrests as many people requested it.
Is the backrest angle adjustable?
The junior backrest has a 30 degree adjustable backrest, the adult is just two positions (about 15 degrees).
What is the frame made from?
The Getabout Buggy has no chassis, it is a lightweight UV Stable PVC monocoque structure that can easily be assembled and dismantled if required.
This means that there are no major load areas, your weight is distributed over the whole tub area where you are sitting, a second advantage is this also means the occupant is safer as it can not get hot in the sun unlike metal bars .
How easy is it to transport?
The unit comprises of 6 panels which panels which interlock together and fix with a thumbscrew. No tools are required for assembly. It also has seperate axles and balloon wheels.
